Usually databases are presented as forms and tables - a major problem
for blind people who will not see the grouping of blocks, but will see
data line by line only, using e.g. Braille terminals.

Thus I'd say: usual FMP layouts are not suitable for blind people.

However, FMP is suited very well to create proper layouts which are
suitable for blind people.

Example: consider this "simple" input mask:

+ Name ++++++++++ + Address ++++++++++++
+ [____________]+ + [_________________]+
+ first name + + street +
+ [____________]+ + [ ][____________]+
+ last name + + ZIP town +
+ |title list |+ + |state list |+
+ title + ++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++

A user friendly input for blind people here would be e.g.:

*** Name ***
first name: [____________]
last name: [____________]
title: [____________]

*** Address ***
street: [____________]
zip: [___]
town: [____________]
state: [____________]

Use e.g. FMP to check its layout via the web: see it as HTML
Use a text only web browser, such as lynx, w3m etc.

To make it even harder: limit your terminal width to 1 line height, 40
characters width and try to figure out what can be seen on this page.

Martin

I read somewhere the other day that the new Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
includes in-built support for various braille screen readers, so as long as
you set-up the database appropriately (e.g. no graphic-only buttons), I
can't think of any real reason a blind person couldn't use FileMaker Pro
databases.
