A friend is moving from Windows to a Mac, and has Ribbon 131 on the
Windows machine. Does anyone know of a free Mac version of this font,
or a similar font?

Thanks!

There are numerous fonts equivalent to Bitstream's Ribbon 131. Many of
them are included with various packages, or can easily be found in PC
Truetype (usable on current Macs) or OpenType.

They include:
Coronet (MT and others)
Pageant (Micrologic Software)
Cornet (WSI)
Bow (Bay Animation)
Ohio Script
Coronation (SWFTE)
Hyazinth (Brendel/Softmaker/GST)

Google should help. Here's one that's not great, but free:

Hmm - didn't read your message carefully.

If the font he or she has on the PC is truetype or Opentype, it can be
used as is on the Mac. If it's Type 1 (a .pfb and a .pfm) it cant be,
but there are programs available to convert to Mac format. I believe
that Refont, an old, free, command line program can do it:
