It sure is. While it would have been super cool to consolidate some of
the MV environments or to have InterSystems purchase U2 (with a
personal professional interest in that one), this will surely spur
some movement. If I had chosen U2, I would be a bit concerned right
now. Who knows what about the Rocket Software folks? What is their
current relationship to U2 or MV and what is their interest in buying
it? I don't imagine that it was cheap to purchase. Does anyone have
any added info or hypotheses? --dawn

My hypothesis ...

To loose the IBM brand is a blow probably a big blow for some people,
however I think the fact that the existing team are to come with the
acquisition and looking at the previous rocket purchases they seem to
let them become stand alone subsidiaries that can build their product
lines. So hopefully this will enable Susie and her team to grow U2
without the restrictions that come with being part of IBM.

time will tell...

For the same reason that their unable to spell "they are" or "they're".

(Intentional mis-use of their to illustrate my point!)

One thing IS for sure .... the keynote address that Susie S was
scheduled to be making at the Pick Worldwide Users Conference being
run by Tiger Logic November 4-7 will now need a major rewrite
(assuming she still has time to attend), and this alone is nearly
enough to justify the flight from Oz.

I believe the potential "Big Winners" from this, if there ARE any,
will end up being the likes of Reality & Cache, and despite all of the
"bad press" I think Tiger Logic may even benefit, ESPECIALLY if their
product releases come up to scratch ... at least they are backing the
technology platform and putting their money where their mouth is.

That little "niggle" that everyone has had in the back of their minds
about IBM's long term intentions has now turned into a full stroke
IMHO, and it will be interesting to see if the patient makes a full
recovery OR if there is going to be long term & obvious damage!

Either way, the road ahead for many of us is likely to include black
ice & thick fog

I trust licenses like this will transfer forward. Then again, why
would anyone want an old, restricted version of software for the same
price as the real thing which now has a much greater feature set? ;)

I believe that the "Eats shoots" version was the one chosen for publication.
I always knew the joke in its alternative form that has Aussie/Kiwi

It is a long time since I traded quips with an eight year old but the
