Researchers at the Korean Robot Intelligence Technology Lab have
developed a virtual dog that lives within a computer simulation. The
dog, known as Rity, possesses virtual chromosomes that control
different traits of the dog. When a genetic algorithm is applied, the
chromosomes randomly mutate so that over many generations different
behavioral characteristics appear.

'Mice get human language gene' new Scientist 6 June
'Foxp2 has been seen as key to the evolution of speech and
language since its discovery in 2001. Now trangenic mice
have been produced that make the human version of the gene,
with dramatic results: their calls sound different from those
of normal mice, and certain learning pathways in the brain
appear to be enhanced.'
(continued)
'the mice with human foxp2 produce neurons that are more
readily and lastingly calmed by repeated electrical stimulation
This process, known as long-term depression, is involved in
learning physical movements'
I recall a post some years ago discussing whether or not
memory and language were influenced by physical movement,
thats to say, if we adopt a physical action it reinforces
learning of things done at the very same time, more so than
perhaps learning off-by-heart, by rote alone.
If anyone fancies designing the mouse-speak programme to
interpret the squeeks? stand forward plurleese!, perhaps its only
a matter of turning the recording down reeeeaaaaallly slow...lol ..
I'm curious to know what language they will speak? English?
Chinese?, Swahili? as its know that hens have regional dialects?
and what will they be saying? example:- "this cheese is excellent!,
com'mon over here guys! but watch the metal bar with the spike" |
