Hi,

Yes, (well sort of) I guess everyone is busy developing games.

I used to post here, once long ago, but had left mostly as the people here
kept being jerks...

decided to check back, and now the relevant groups have mostly died... how
odd...

So the coclusion is, the games.development newsgroups died, because you

stopped posting?

I guess nobody writes but somebody still reads. Our development has
programmed us to do that, for miscellaneous reasons :-)

maybe...
that or too many people were creating a bad atmosphere and so eventually
nearly everyone left...

but, then again, it seems as a sad thing that usenet in general is facing a
slow and gradual death...

The death of Usenet has been innacurately predicted since the days of
public web access, then the rise of web forums, then the rise of
p0rn/illegal file sharing via Usenet, etc, etc :)

According to Newsadmin.com Usenet posts continue to rise, roughly 65%
of all posts being text only, with Giganews showing over 100,000 new
posts a day, and the top 100 text groups ranging from 200-1000 unique
'views' per day.

There are probably less 'new' users coming on to Usenet, particularly
with some large ISPs dropping hosting of their own Usenet servers, but
I would imagine Usenet will be around for quite some time until the
'old' users die off.

Hi,

Oddly enough it seems only the games.dev groups have died.

Maybe people moved to the various web forums since it is eassier to show
screendumps/pictures there (which might be more important than for other
newsgroups). Well at leas that's the only reason I can think of.

Giganews filters 'obvious' spam (last Giganews quote was 12% spam),
and those aren't counted in Giganews stats about valid posts.

The highest unique post text group, was a perl programming group with
1,300+ posts/day only 2% unfiltered spam (identified after
propogation) and that still means 1,250+ valid posts/day.

but, it seems like, year after year, there is always less traffic (in
general). than there was several years earlier...

(not just here, but throughout the comp.* heirarchy, and likely elsewhere as
well...).
