This may be a silly question, but I was wondering if there happens to be a
list anywhere of obscure computers and/or game machines that have yet to be
emulated. I've done updates on some existing emulators, both for myself
and official, but I'd like to find something to work on from scratch (or
even as a driver for MESS). I figure pretty much anything I've ever heard
of is already covered under some emulation project, but perhaps there are
some lesser-known machines that nobody has ever taken the time to work
with? If anyone might be able to point me in the right direction, I'd
appreciate it.
Thanks!

Milton Bradley Microvision.
Contrary to popular belief this machine is not immune. The cartridges
use two MCUs ; the Intel 8021 and the Texas TMS1000. I am not an expert
on the former, but the latter has a test mode where the contents of the
mask rom can be verified, and I would be surprised if the former does not.
Sometimes getting the ROM image is harder. I extracted the ROM of the
RCA Studio 2 console. Writing an emulator for it was easy ; extracting
the ROM was a major hack.
Transam Triton
An 8080 based computer whose design was published in Electronics Today
International, and of particular interest to moi. I did contact Transam
who still exist, but despite a search from the author they couldn't find
even a ROM image. Nor does ETI, now merged with Practical Electronics.
The details can probably be obtained from the central library which
should have all issues of ETI - sometime around 1981.
Tomy Tutor
A very wierd console a bit like the TI99-4/A
Atari Falcon
AFAIK not emulated.
Compucolor 2
Not sure about the name of this one, which has gone out of my head
This was one of the earliest Color machines, and it had (I think) an
8085 CPU and a disk drive (when such was very unusual). It definitely
existed, I remember it quite clearly. It had an odd keyboard with
coloured keys on it. |

Speaking about 1802 machines, I suppose the Comx 35 and Comx PC1
both are not yet emulated - I have hardly even seen a screenshot
from the real computer, much less an emulator.
There is a _simulator_ written by Cameron Kaiser for the C64 though.
I would believe all the internationally known brands have been
covered in one way or another, and you would have to investigate
some domestic market in an odd country to spot new gems. Often it
seems that the community knows so little about those systems or
noone can confirm they own and _use_ one, so it would be a totally
blind spot to emulate (IMHO).

Tutor emulation is included in MESS, though I'm not sure of it's
state/maturity level at this point.

I was about to say that I was pretty sure the Falcon is emulated, but it
seems projects like ARAnyM strive to emulate only what is necessary to
create a TOS "clone".
Thanks a bunch for the pointers - sounds like I have some tough research
ahead to track down any of the obscure hardware and info that might still
be available out there.

I don't think anyone's emulated the 3DO game console. I saw a project
a few years ago, but it disappeared AFAIK.

Looks like FreeDO is still active: http://www.freedo.org/

I don't know why the IBM 5100/5110/5120 hasn't be done yet. There is
a web site that details a lot of the architecture and I/O features, so
after programming that up, all you need are the microcode images.
Perhaps the guy who did the web site would be able to dump the ucode.
